They're a little contrived, but I don't think I'd call them "tacky"... that connotes that they are tasteless.  Pretty work, regardless.

Yes, I saw those on Petapixel and also thought they were very nice and done with film too.

Chris puts it well.

Personally, I would say they are different.

Best regards

It depends heavily on which standards we want to use...
But I can say that the subject person's role in pictures is very very minimum considering traditional and usual portrait and fashion photography.
The depth of the narrative in pictures is... depending on the standard with which we want to compare....

It is certainly fabulous work, but to my taste exaggerated film colours, thick layered symbolism and an extra serving of bubble gum coloured flowers is a bit too much. I almost expected a rainbows shooting unicorn in the last pictures.

But who am I to say so? There certainly is a market for this kind of images and the technique is impressive.

Nice, imaginative!

I can understand how this would really annoy those who feels photography must be inextricably tied to "reality."

Not sure what you mean by exaggerated film colours? They were shot of film and scanned, obviously scanning adds a now dimension to just doing a wet print. I like the way colour neg film can be saturated and subdued all at the same time.

This is Photoshopping used at it's best - for photo art.  Very nice.

Oh, come on, man! Just admit you are envious! Envy is human. No problem.  :)

It's pretty work. I don't know what the author's intention is, if it's to make nice looking images, or to make art. If I would look at it with the expectation to see art I would agree with Jerome. A little bit too posterish. If I just look at it as nice images, they indeed are pleasing to the eye.

And I do envy the skill to put it together.

It doesn't matter if it's done with a crayon or photoshop, 80 mpx or film.

It's a nice unique  body of cohesive work, which is very hard to do and takes resource, talent and huge effort.

Personally, I like it a lot but whether it fits anyones personal taste is irrelevant, the effort should be appreciated.

Photography like this is meant to make a small section of the world prettier and more interesting.

That's cool.
