Day trip photo sites in and around Santa Fe
« on: April 25, 2014, 06:14:27 pm »

I may be in Santa Fe, NM for a few days, possibly a week, in the middle of August. I may have a few days down time there, so I would like to ask those here for their top 5 day trip list of photo locations to think about going to, in and around the Santa Fe area.

Thanks Larry

Well...you'll have a lot of choices!

First off, the Santa Fe old town is worthy of a day of walking around shooting...(and seeing the sights). Outside of Santa Fe, there's the Pecos National Historical Park. Also, a day trip from Santa Fe would be Bandelier National Monument. Also another day trip would be Taos, NM and perhaps the Taos Pueblo . Note, shooting at the Taos Pueblo can be somewhat problematic...

South from Santa Fe there's the Turquoise Trail which will take you through some pretty quirky (but safe) towns. If you have the time you can also try to hit Chaco Canyon. It's a bit of a drive on some pretty bad roads, but it's pretty cool.

And, of course there's Ghost Ranch and Abiquiú, NM home of Georgia O'Keeffe (her house is open for tours through the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum). You must see the museum...

I'll be @ Santa Fe next Thursday/Friday after being at White Sands National Park @ 4 hrs south. So any & all additional info will be helpful. Thanx for suggestions Schewe, sounds exciting. :)

White Sands is absolutely amazing! I've lived in SF for 20 years (today's my anniversary). Went there with the wife and dogs in November and it was unbelievable. Great weather that time of year too, not real hot. Well worth the trip and if you go from Santa Fe, you can go via HW 285 and check out Roswell which is a hoot.

Very old saying here: Don't like the weather? Wait an hour. So if it rains, unfortunately for our drought stricken area, it doesn't last long.

Well, I did go for couple of days to White Sands, earlier this week. It really is beautiful, next morning was cloudy & overcast didn't feel like going, but u never know, so did go, just me & other car. Light peaked in& out quickly, had to work like paparazzo. Loved the cloudy morning, who would've thunk it.
Santa Fe is great, checking out tomorrow morning. Great weather, bright sun, blue sky.
