Hasselblad H1 to H2 upgrade
« on: April 20, 2014, 03:40:49 pm »

Anyone ever done this? Is it worth it anymore (for use of HCD lenses)? Do you know the cost associated with it?

AFAIK the upgrade won´t enable the use of HCD lenses. If my mind serves me right the main difference was the power supply of the (Hasselblad) digital back through the camera battery. They also changed from NiCad to LiIon during that period.

Cheers, Ulf

You can't use HCD lenses with the H2.

You need the H4X for that but with the H4X you will be missing the lens corrections since you will not be using Phocus, so it won't be perfect either.

If you are looking to use the HCD lenses you really want to be on a H3D/H4D/H5D body.

If I recall correctly the H1 to H2 upgrade is around $500 in the US.  It comes with the rechargeable grip and a charger.

The H2 has slightly better autofocus than the H1 but besides that if you are on the latest H1 firmware there won't be too much of a difference.

Thank you for your responses Ulf and JV! With the H1 am I restricted to Nicad batteries or will it accept the new 7.2V lithium?

The H1 accepts the lithium batteries when updated with recent firmware.

I use both the H1 and the H2, and at times work with the H4 as well. I haven't noticed that the focus is better on the H2 compared to the H1. Personally, I find that the H system offers the fastest and the most reliable focus in the medium field.

The H4 feels snappier to me and you have the advantage of the True Focus as well.
