The Amargosa sure looks better at night than it did the one time I was there in broad, sunny daylight. I hadn't even noticed Lik's gallery then. Is it fairly new?

Eric,

I think the gallery is recent, probably installed sometime in 2013.

Yes, the atmosphere in Death Valley Junction is best either at daybreak or after sundown.

It's a cracking shot in its own right, Rajan! Apart from its documentary value, that is.

Slobodan,

Thank you.  And to echo what others have said, great to have you back.

Just there a couple of days ago. The new building didn't compute since my last visit a few years back but it looks like it belongs there. The prints inside (4) are super and run the gamut from red to blue. Very simple labeling but not much else, such as a website, QR or phone number for the uninformed, just "LIK" in a simple square on the top of the three outward walls. I was there maybe 30 minutes and a couple of cars passing through did stop for a second or two to check out the mini-gallery.

In the mean time, this was the 40th anniversary of my first visit to Death Valley Jct. where I got to see Marta Becket at the top of her career and I wanted to get some photos of the place since she'll be 90 in a few months and no telling what the future portends for the place. Marta's last performance there in October. There are some recent interviews with her posted on YouTube from this past February. Here's the link to the first: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkyhdwEwCPw

Through the years, I was privileged to watch and photograph Marta through her ups and downs, but she was always gracious no matter what was going on with her life. She was always inspiring.

Here's a different POV of the gallery and Death Valley Jct.

Larry,

That's a cool shot.  How did you get it - quadcopter + GoPro?

PS: At the very top left corner you can see Eagle Mountain.

Hi Rajan,

You nailed it. I'm flying a DJI Phantom I and GP Hero 3 Silver. The IQ compared to my real cameras isn't there since it's a basic-medium jpeg compression, low DR and fixed at iso 100. However, the POV more than makes up for it!

The new DJI that I saw at NAB in Las Vegas will hopefully be worth the wait since it has raw output, longer flight time and better electronics.

Finally, a way to do aerials in the field on my time and at my location and from a much more photogenic altitude!
