Worflow Upscaling Image in C1
« on: April 08, 2014, 11:28:17 am »

Are there any experience or suggestions on who to up scale (editing, sharpening ...) an image in C1?
The goal is to create a print of 24 x 16 inch (60 cm x 40 cm). The starting file is 16 MP RAW (14 bit) file.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

The C1 up-sampling does not use very advanced algorithms, and it doesn't sharpen after upsampling (would require importing and another operation on the resulting outputfile). You can get significantly better quality by using dedicated tools for that.

Depending on image content, you can use Benvista's PhotoZoom Pro or OnOne's Perfect resize, or use one of the many possible methods offered by ImageMagick (which is free, just take some time to understand).

When you have to do this on a more regular basis, Qimage Ultimate offers a smooth and repeatable workflow, while automatically using the printer's maximum quality settings, regardless of the actual output size (it can also print multiple sizes from the same source image and optimize usage of the available paper surface).

Cheers,
Bart
