Brad,
As you maybe noticed from my post the other day, my Nikon 9000 just failed, so I am in the market for a new scanning solution for 35 and 120 film. I don't go back and scan very often, so I'm not eager to spend $2000 for a scanner, but I also don't want to not be able to. I ran across this:
http://photo.net/digital-darkroom-forum/00b7Fk. Short summary, using a digital camera with a macro lens, a copy stand and a light box. Making multiple shots and use a stitching program to put them together. I just tried it, and it works surprisingly well. I have an Olympus Micro four thirds camera, and at a one to one macro, four exposures covers 35 mm, 8 covers 645. Quality is excellent. It's a bit of hassle to set up, but I think in practice it is almost as fast as the Nikon.
Anyway, it doesn't cost anything to try it, and if it works for you your question is moot.
Hope this helps,
Alan
