Our Tripod Setup

My wife and I use this setup when we each using tripod with a Gimbal Head and a Ball Head.
We each have a Really Right Stuff TVC-34L. On each tripod we have RRS B2-LLR-II Lever-release clamp. One the bottom each Ball Head (BH-55LR) and each Wimberley II Gimbal Head we have RRS-DVTL-55 Round Dovetail Plates. This setup allows us to change between the Gimbals and Ballheads in a matter of seconds. We have found them to be safe, secure, and sturdy when using our 500 and 800 lenses. This works for us, it may not be the ideal setup for others.

Interesting setup, especially the clamp on the tripod base and using the adapter for the bottom of the ballheadā¦

I use the same setup, with one addition.
Instead of the RRS clamp directly on the flat plate of the ballhead, I use the one which is integrated into their leveling base. (Leveling base + lever clamp)
This allows quick leveling of the Gimbal Head, rather than having to level the tripod itself. it also acts as a limited range ball-head in a pinch !.

I have corresponding quick plate on:
Jobu Gimbal Head.
BH-55
Arc-Cube
Works great !
