Epson 9890 printer noise after printing
« on: March 21, 2014, 02:33:43 pm »

Re: an Epson 9890 44" printer-
After I print something, my printer makes a sound like something is rotating or recharging inside the printer. It is a 1-2 second sound that repeats for a few minutes before stopping.
Again--it is a "whirring sound" like something inside the printer is recharging or rotating.
I do not notice any problems with printing or print quality. Any thoughts (besides aliens or gremlins etc)

what auto clean options do you have enabled?  The fact that it's a couple of minutes sounds like it might be trying to clean, thinking it has a problem.  May want to check your auto nozzle check settings.

Dale, the sound you hear is the pump cycling to keep a constant pressure in the ink cartridges. You have one or more carts that either have a tiny air leak between the bladder and shell or are not sealed completely when seated in the printer. It's likely you noticed it shortly after changing an ink cartridge. If you listen carefully you can hear the noise at the same periodicity even while printing. The only real issue is the extra wear on the pump. Happy printing!     - Jim
