The real question is, "Does it matter".

None of us were happy when it took a dSLR 0.2 seconds to autofocus (despite the fact that we were perfectly happy focussing manually or using a rangefinder that took 1 - 2 seconds).

I think that, as in so many aspects of photography nowadays, we have to take a reality check and wonder whether the differences between cameras, lenses, etc., etc. actually impact upon our ability to take stunning photographs.

Fast autofocus matters to bird photographers. Just try to capture a peregrine falcon stooping to its prey at 200 kph. On the other hand, the photographer's ability to pan accurately is the single most important factor in bird-in-flight photography. Hey, I do BIF photography AND have a truckload of MF lenses for other genres of photography. Go figure.

It matters to me. But the question is if that given speed can be achieved under low light levels. My 6D is very good at this.

Speed is relatively unimportant compared to the ability of the camera and lens to accurately focus and track a subject, as with the bird in flight, and their ability to focus in low light and with low contrast subjects. A bird with a hard outline is an atypical situation for most photography and there is far more value with a system that uses a collection of cross type autofocus sensors and where the manufacturer provides enough of them to cover most of the viewfinder, as with Canon's pro cameras.

I'm all for the reality check.
