Stone towers

Suggestions welcome. Thanks for looking.

It was -41 this morning, plus a windchill. I am staying inside, printing, and came across this from August.

Interesting, dramatic image. I think the foreground could be a bit brighter for me.

Looks like Andy Goldsworthy might have been there.

Yes, wonderful light. Well seen and composed. The foreground has excellent detail, almost like an etching. However, it seems like there is a "spotlight" on the centre foreground. I understand why you've brightened that area and that it is not "reality" but I'm wondering if it's too much.

Scott...we used to have an artist on Hudson River who did this...used to shoot her a lot (Bridgette Polk?)...and love these "cairns". That said, I think there are two images here in your frame...the rock sculptures and the landscape background...they're not working together holistically. From your posts...it seems your predilection is for wide landscapes(?)...but I would "get close" and find stories among the rocks even if it may not be something you originally intended or wanted.  /Brandt

Thanks for the feedback. You nailed the big issues which reflect why I waited 6 months to post this.

Dave, Terry: for brightness, I am still trying to find the balance between reality and the way I remember it. The stones are a little brighter when you look directly it them, and maybe it enhances the modest magicality of the scene.

Brandt, yes this looks like two pictures. I have indeed spent some time creeping about getting just the stones. I'll try again this summer. This is the best of what I have so far.

Thanks for the links to other stone art. David, the CO video is exceptional both for the stones and the quality of the video.

Love the rocks.  That was great video.  I have the rocks stacked in my yard but the winds keep knocking them down and I keep putting them up.  Then we have the occasional earthquake.  Great thread.
