Bockingford Inkjet paper
« on: February 26, 2014, 10:19:25 am »

Has anyone tried this paper? Any opinions? How does it perform?

It's made by St Cuthbert, at the same mill as their Somerset paper, and also distributed by Legion Paper. What makes it interesting is its coating. They call it 'double-sided', but, in reality, it's 'no-sided' - rather than being coated onto the surface of the paper, it's infused throughout the paper as a kind of sizing agent. So, unlike a normal inkjet paper, there's no fragile coating to worry about, and, unlike an uncoated paper, it has fewer problems with dot gain and ink loads.

It's only 190gsm and I can only seem to find it up to 13x19" size (so only small prints, and no panoramas) but it looks like an interesting paper for works designed for longevity, or for things like photo books (where printed pages will be in direct, face-to-face contact with each other).

I believe Hawk Mountain's Red Tail was similar, before they stopped producing it.

Harald Johnson tested it 10 years ago.

I believe nobody was impressed by it.

Fair enough - I figured there must be something wrong with it, otherwise more people would be using it...
