Torres del Paine National Park, Chile
« on: February 25, 2014, 01:44:07 am »

1. Alpenglow at sunrise on the Torres del Paine massif in Chile. Taken from the shore of Laguna Amarga, the combination of hurricane-force winds (sufficient to blow over my heavy-duty tripod even with the added weight of a camera bag loaded with heavy lenses) and water spray blown from the lake made this a technically-challenging shoot.

2. A long-exposure shot taken at the base of Torres del Paine during a driving snowstorm, with winds gusting to 200kph. Although the winds were producing whitecaps on the lake, the smoothing effect of the long exposure revealed a ghostly reflection of the towers within it.

Me parece mas completa la fotografía en color, quizá por la belleza de la luz y su calidez. Gran composición y buena nitidez. Saludos.

I wish the skies were clearer when I was at Mirador Las Torres - I stayed at camp Torres for two nights, hoping for clear weather, but all I got was rain, snow and wind...

I like both images too, with a slight preference for the first one (color shot). The second image in B&W is interesting… Much more dynamic than the first one.

Funny, I first thought (for a half-second) that you put two different photos together. The horizon line is so clean and almost a straight line.

Bravo and thanks for sharing!

I had the tripod very close to the ground - any higher and the vibration would have been unacceptable and the tripod would have blown over! (this is with a RRS TVC-34L and C1 Cube head, by the way, so not a lightweight).

#1 looks a bit oversaturated to me, which happens easily with this kind of light.
Nice shots anyway.

A clear "sortof" - to me it looks as if the red channel is probably not only saturated, but also blown which -at least to my eye- makes an artificial plasticy aspect.
A very slight decrease in saturation could fix that without spoiling the nice accent aspect of the glow.

It's only saturated in sRGB - it looks great in Adobe or Prophoto RGB. Unfortunately, perceptual rendering in conversion makes the rest of the image look dull.

I really hate converting for web sometimes, since my images rarely fit in sRGB...

On my monitor it is very much a Maxfield Parish....That's a good thing.

I love that place - long time since i shot there though.
You've captured it well - i like the composition of the first shot. Ideally, i'd like more even and aesthetic clouds - seems a big unbalanced to the right.
Kudos for two great shots.

First one was A7r and Canon 70-200L II. Second one was A7r and TS-E 24L II.
