Revising Soft Proof Settings
« on: February 23, 2014, 02:30:43 pm »

Hi,

Occasionally, after I have made a print using Lightroom's soft-proofing function, I will come back and look at my print the next day with new eyes and see something that I want to tweak. When I go back into Lightroom is there any way to compare my existing soft proof to the original using the before/after view like you do when you originally created the soft proof? All I want to do is a small tweak but it seems like there is no way to get the before after view with the soft proofing box checked without starting from scratch and making a new soft proof virtual copy. Can anyone explain the best way to tweak a soft proofed version when you want to continue to compare it side by side with the original?

Thanks.

John

You have to and you should make a virtual copy (Proof Copy). Those contain output specific edits which is very useful.

Andrew,

Thanks for the quick reply. I always make it a practice to create a virtual copy for my proofing so I'm glad to know that you agree that's a good process. I noticed that if I want to tweak my original print and create a new virtual copy by bringing up my original and clicking the soft proof box that it names it the same thing as my original soft-proof virtual copy. So I end up with two virtual copies named the same thing. Is that an issue?

Not that I can think of.

Thanks. So just to be clear. Once you print from a soft proof in LR you have to create a new one to adjust the existing settings. No way to go back to the original and get a before after view.

Right, you create a new VC based on the new edits.

Also, if you go to the Metadata panel in the Library module, you can change the Copy Name of the VCs.  Might help you to keep track of which is which.
