Looks like you should be able to easily attach something just after the normal paper path, on the section designed for the mounter, it would sit just a few millimeters away from the paper passing over it.

It doesn't need to touch the paper at all (in fact, it probably shouldn't). As long as it's attached to the same piece of metal as the platen, the whole platen should heat up to the same temperature with a 20-minute warmup before printing.

Oh, I see what you're getting at now.  Hmmm, there's a whole lot of plastic between the paper and that part of the platten - I don't know that I'd recommend heating that up.
