USB2 speed from USB3
« on: February 14, 2014, 02:54:38 pm »

Folks,

I recently purchased the following:

1. Sandisk Extreme Pro 64GB UDMA 7 160MB/s CF card
2. Lexar USB3 dual card reader

My motherboard is a Gigabyte SKT-1155 Z68X-UD7-B3 and it has several USB3 ports on the rear input/output panel

My card, card reader, cable connecting the card reader to computer and USB port are all USB3 compatible but for some strange reason when I test the speed at which I can write files from the computer to the card it is on average 29MB/s. According to Rob Galbraith's tests for the card and card reader, I should experience something of the order of 80MB/s.

I've gone into the BIOS and checked that USB3 is enabled. I've also turned on the Turbo feature related to it. No joy.

I've checked on Gigabyte's website and have downloaded and installed the NEC USB 3.0 Driver (version 2.0.30.0). No joy, though I'm not sure if there is a newer version for my motherboard (we're almost at the limit of my computer know-how!)

Can anyone shed any light on what the issue may be?

Regards,

Fixed. Thought I had installed the latest driver but apparently I hadn't. All good now.
