Can you bring out the rays of light more in the first one?

This is the fist processing cut. Before I print I would enhance the print a little and do what you suggested. I saw Joel Grimes on CreativeLive and he showed a processing technique that was very effective in creating light rays. He is sort of noted for that.

I prefer the first one, due to graphic nature of the grass stumps in the snow.

I like #1. #2 reminds me of my own difficulties: "No one is going to believe these colours."

Both colors are pretty close to what came out of the camera. Unlike you who braves the cold, most of my shots are from the comfort of the SUV.
