Synchronizing Develop Module changes
« on: February 05, 2014, 11:02:10 am »

Read that before hitting Sync and after selecting target images to Sync "to" you should make sure the image to Sync "from" was the "most selected image". I do not know what this means or how to do this.

The first image selected is the source of the settings to be synced.  The subsequent images added to the selection will be the target of the sync operation.  When you look at the filmstrip thumbnails, the margins around the first one to be selected will be slightly brighter than the rest of the group to remind you of the image providing the settings that will be synced over to the others.

It may or may not be the first selected. When you have a number of images selected you can change the most selected by simply clicking on it while you still have the selection in place. In other words the selection does not get canceled by clicking on another image inside the selection. That's quite useful.

Sort of ... when you have a group selected the first one clicked is the 'most selected.'  Clicking another image in the group makes it the 'most selected.'  But clicking ANOTHER image in the group deselects all but the one just clicked.

When you have a group of images selected you can click on any of them to designate it as the most selected and the selection does not change. Deselection only happens if clicking outside the selection.

Not the way mine works.  LR5.3, Win7 32-bit.  Just tried it.  In develop module selected 5 random images in the filmstrip by clicking one image then [CTRL]-clicking the rest.  1st image clicked is 'most selected.' Subsequently [ALT]-clicking any image in the group makes that image the 'most selected.' [CTRL]-clicking any image in the group deselects that one image, leaving the others selected. Plain clicking any image, whether in or out of the group, deselects all images except the one clicked.

In my Win 7 64 bit, simply clicking in selected image in the film strip causes the image to be the most selected. Alt-click does the same thing. Control click deselects.

Also, one must be careful where one is pointing when clicking in the image. At the bottom of each thumbnail, there may be one or more icons. These indicate the existence of membership in a collection or keywords or a crop or develop adjustments. Clicking these causes an action depending on which you've clicked; a collection membership click opens a dialog with the names of the collections, clicking will take you to Library mode showing the collection, clicking on keywords opens Library mode with the keywords tab open, clicking on crop opens Develop mode with the crop tool open, clicking on adjustments opens Develop mode with Basic Adjustments tab open. These actions seem as if they might provide quite a shortcut!

It's easy to tell which is the 'most selected' as the frame around that image is lighter than the others. And to switch which is the most selected from a group of images, click on the image itself and not the frame surrounding it.  If you select a group of images and click on the frame (I usually use the side frame for reasons mentioned above) it will only select the one image you clicked on and deselect the rest. Ctrl/Cmd-A will select all images in the folder or collection and Ctrl/Cmd-D will deselect them all.  If you select one then shift-select or ctrl/cmd-select others, pressing the / key will deselect them one at a time.  Try it and see!
