Epson 3880 discolour band at end of prints
« on: February 04, 2014, 04:51:09 pm »

Hello,

I am having an issue with my Epson 3880 printer.

It is printing a band of slightly discoloured/blurred area at the end of a print, something like this:
(see image attached)

The ink is low on a number of cartridges, but I doubt this is the issue as the rest of the print is fine.

I have only tried one media, I will try another when I get home. The issue arises on both sheet fed and rear fed prints, and both in A2 and A4 size.

Strangely the band is also size dependent, i.e. it is bigger on bigger prints and smaller on smaller prints. I would say it covers about the final 1/20th of of the print.

Has anyone else had this issue / any ideas what the problem might be?

do you pull out the output tray so that the finished print is 'supported' very well vs. just sort of hanging or bending?

I usually have the tray pulled out but not up, so the print can dangle down a bit to avoid roller lines.

You make a good point, I will try it with the tray fully up.

The printer repair guy asked me if it only occurs on borderless. The answer is yes. Border prints seem to be fine with the exact same settings and tray height.

I had the same issue brand new out of the box. It was resolved by upgrading to the latest driver 9.17. I first did a nozzle check, nozzle clean as this printer uses a pressurized ink system and a head alignment to no avail. The printer driver update fixed the isssue and i can now print boarderless pics…hope this helps…mat
