I like #1 the best. I would try cropping #1 and #2 considerably, to focus on the ice mound in the upper left corner, and see if you like it. Bushes detract from #2. #3 is a little too flat for my taste. YVMV.

For me, #3 is getting closest to interesting forms and abstraction. Try getting closer? Also, standing right over the subject gets it all in the same focal plane (if that's what you want!). Lastly, I prefer flat light for this kind of stuff, it seems so brittle and hard in sunlight.

I think #1 has potential, it's just... not sure... would have to play with it.  #2 I would crop vertically as I don't think the shrubs add anything to the image. #3 just serves to remind me that I've been through the ice seven times now (slow learner) and that it was very cold every time.  ::)

For me #1 is the best, because it has the essential elements.

Thanks to everyone for your interesting and varied feedback.  It is much appreciated.

It is notable that the images that I have been finding interesting lately are somewhat off of the Lula norm.  I'm not sure what that means, if anything.  Most likely means that I need to get out more.  :)

Don't worry about anybody's "norm," Chuck! Just go for what interests you.
I think the variety of responses you got to these photos shows they've got something. Some of the suggestions may be worth playing with. Or they may not.
