FUJINON LENS XF10-24mmF4 R OIS: Any experience?
« on: January 25, 2014, 05:27:40 pm »

I am in the situation to complement my current Fuji XF lens lineup
and am pondering to get the XF10-24mmF4 R OIS.

Does anyone already own this lens and can report about it?

Is there any review online yet? I didn't find one so far.

Thanks
~Chris

I'm curious also as I'm trying to avoid lens hoarding.
I already have the 14 and the 18-55 and with the new 16-50 on the horizon it will be quite difficult to decide what to get. Don't really need wider than 21 equivalent, I rarely used the Sigma 8-16 that I have for the previous APSC, but you can cover a lot of needs with 10-24, 35 and 55-200.

This is true for sure! I'd been waiting for almost one year for my 23 mm. But after all the patience has been paid off.

There is a first look at that lens on fuji rumors, seems competitive if you use small apertures, the reviewer didn't comment on the wide open performance.

And while we are at it there are new sales on Fujifilm lenses, I will finally get the 27 as it's 200 now.

It is pretty tempting.  You can get the 18m, the 27mm and the 60mm for $1,000...

And, for people new to the platform, you can get the X-E1 with the 18-55mm zoom for $800.

I'd buy one except for no focus scale. I shoot zone focus a lot and don't want a lens without a scale.

When focusing manually the DoF is marked in the EvF /on LCD.

So far I have 14, 18-55, 35, 60, 55-200. I'm not convinced I need the 23 and on the 56 I'm still thinking. The 27 would fit well for size and sharpness, and it's finally cheap. As I plan to get the X-T1 there will be at least one weather sealed lens also, so lots of buying with questionable returns.
And I still didn't give up the thought of having a full frame Nikon system (D610 vs D800) vs the alternative D7100/D7200 as I already have an almost complete Nikon DX lens set: 8-16, 16-85, 35, 50, 70-300.
Decisions, decisions. Either way lots of money.

I own the 14mm, the 23mm and the 35mm.  I have the 56mm (and the X-T1) on pre-order and the idea of a 10-24mm zoom is growing on me.

Although the 27mm is very cheap at $200 and a pancake I really only see a use for it for me personally if I got rid of my X100s.

The 18mm is close to the 14mm and there is a fast ultra wide in the pipeline, most likely a 16mm, so I am holding off on that one as well.

The 60mm is probably the only one that really tempts me at this stage.

I am also not too inspired by the many zooms in the new lens pipeline.  I by far would have preferred a fast 90mm (135mm eq, f2 or faster).

A lot of the new zooms don't do a lot for me. I wish the super tele would come out sooner. I started almost two years ago with the 18, 35, 60, those are great lenses. I have since added the 14, 23, 27 and 55-200mm. Even though the 18, 23, 27 and 35 are all fairly close together they are very different from each other, different experience. I bought the 27 used because I thought I would probably resell it but I ended up liking it. For a quick small walk around it is a fun lens to use. Since I started with X-Pro1 I thought I would be happy with that for a long time. I am still happy with but I really miss the lack of an electronic release and the ability to do repeated exposures via a release. That and the lack of more than a stop exposure bracketing. So I was looking long and hard at getting an X-E2 because of the improvement and the release capability. Then the X-T1 was announced and that did it for me. I preordered. ;D I think it will add some usability I will be happy with so a worthwhile upgrade. And I also have the 10-24mm on pre-order. That will probably be it for me until the super-tele comes out.

I have had the X-T1 for a day now.  I love it.  Spent the afternoon yesterday shooting with it and look forward to some more today.  I'll be in Chicago for two days next week and will give it the old street photography test.  It has some very well thought out features. I have seen the 10-24 and really want it.  It's on order and I should have it soon.  The 56mm got me too it's also on order.  I have some projects where the 56mm will be a great lens to have.  With the 10-24, 18-55 and 55-200mm lenses I will have a nice grab and go kit.  You can't argue the image quality.  I can stuff everything I need with this in a few pockets of a vest and not be encumbered with a bag. I also have the X1-Pro and love that camera too.  Surprised at how much bigger it feels when compared to the X-T1.  In a week I'll be heading to Vegas and I'll give this system a run for its money there.

My dilemma now is I love my Olympus system too.  The EM1 with the new 12-40 pro lens is also a sweet camera.  When Olympus rounds out their pro lens line they will have a very nice system too.  Now I find myself questioning what I'll take out to shoot with.  The poor Nikons are staying on the shelf more often.  The Phase One and Nikons come out when I know I want the file size otherwise I have been having real fun shooting with these smaller systems.  I won't even get started on the Sony AR 7 line up.  That's a whole other story.  What is certain is that times are changing and I find myself re-thinking the whole camera vs file size thing.  Something that I'll do an article on in the next month or so after I sort it out in my own head.  Meanwhile I having a good time shooting with some wonderful new cameras.

Fuji X-(something) + 55-200 + 18-55 + 10-24 + small carbon tripod + slingshot bag and you're ready for almost everything in a tiny package.
Sell your DSLRs - you'll hardly need them anymore ... for the critical stuff take your MFDs ... or get an additional 4x5" Film camera for the really arty (bollocks) shots ;) .
Cheers

Ooh! A fast 24mm [equivalent] is my perfect standard lens. Shame the road map only say fast, wide prime.
Though I quite liked the 21mm [equivalent] lens when I tested the new camera at weekend.

Got my 10-24 mm today - such a fun lens!
I never had anything that wide - quite an experience ...
The posted image is taken @10 mm when I entered the fun fair today.
Made me a bit dizzy to have that much space at a sudden ...

Was this a normal order from a normal store? I have a friend who's pretty keen to get one if these lenses as soon as possible!

How was the lens at 10mm?  Did you see any color shifting?    How did the corners look?

Fuji won't place out any solid info on the "fast wide" in the pipeline.  I have also heard between a 14 to 16mm F 1.4.

Rokinon Samyang also supposedly now have a 10mm for the x mount.  I am trying to find out more about this lens as it's $529.00 F2.8.
Has a big outer element, won't be filter friendly.
