Beaver Lake Nature Preserve, Indiana. Canon 6D, Canon 70-200 f/4 L IS

Another early morning shot from last weekend. Any critiques are very welcome.

Lovely sky. I don't think the blurred grasses in the foreground add anything, though. I'd crop it just below the base of the tree.

Thanks, everyone, for the feedback and comments.

I'm torn about the foreground. Even it if was in focus, I don't know how much it would add. But, when I consider the whole frame, it does help separate the image into 1/3s. Then again, maybe I'm only justifying?

I'd crop the bottom so that the grassy foreground is about 1/4 of the total height of the image. This doesn't fit the "rule of thirds," but it looks right to me for the photo.

You're not locked into the aspect ratio of the camera - try a square crop of the upper ⅔s.

I also agree but it's a nice image with glorious colors.

Edit: correction, I mean with glorious colors and not without

I would keep the grass. When I had only seen the top half of the photograph before scrolling down, my first thought was: this is a rather typical and boring sunset photograph. However, when I scrolled down, I actually enjoyed the photograph. The grass adds to the impact of the photograph. It adds movement and life - you can almost hear the quiet swishing of the wind blowing though it.

Yes. The depth of the grass gives a strong feeling of place.
I'd crop the sky and a tad from the left.

Wonderful light and colours. If there was enough wind to blur  the grasses a bit more, it would be interesting to see the result. Or perhaps use a ND filter to drag the exposure a bit more?
