I didn't think it was much on my phone, but once at home you can see it is really striking.

Thanks Oscar. Bought another piece of glass to continue my experiments on light and colour.

Very cool Mike. The Slanted shadow really adds tension and interest to the image.

Thanks, it's the internals of a mechanical calculator, it's an exhibit in the Science Museum in London.

I'm not sure: is this a justification for its existence?  ;-)

For the sake of discussion i'd like to be a nay-sayer on this one. As far as abstraction goes this one would work as well (and in my personal opinion; better) if the lamp wasn't visible. Cropped just below the lamp so both shadows are visible would have equal tension, and possibly even a little more intrigue.

Additionally, the image seems to be (lens) distorted, which, for these type of images, is detrimental.

Without the lamp I think it feels too light with no substance, I think the lighter more delicate lines need that lump of near black as a contrast. But of course I am prejudiced as I saw and shot it like this which is pretty much out of camera.

I tried fixing the apparent distortion but couldn't eliminate it so I concluded it might be on the wall. I'm also pretty poor at fixing stuff like that, as fix one aspect another one goes wrong so in the end I think rude word it all I'll just go with what I have :)

Well, the vertical colorgradient over the original size is very appealling but there is a fascinating reversal happening in the lampshadow. But that gts kind of lost because the lamp itself clearly isn't an abstraction and it doesn't quite "interact" with the available shadows or structures to form a story or intrigue. For me it kind of reduces the trigger to look at the image as an abstract and more-or-less pulls one into the reality of: "oh, it's a lamp on a wall."
