My better half and I were there this past Saturday elbowing our way past the hordes of snapshooters.  While I wouldn't be hopping on a plane to visit the Caves any time soon, they are still fairly interesting to see up close.  I expect they will be not around for much longer with this week's warm-up.

I shouldn't laugh (since I realize that not everyone has the same level winter mountaineering experience that we do) but I am not sure whether to be impressed or appalled at how clueless the general public is about safe walking and travel on snow/ice surfaces.  (Think:  Atlanta drivers in an ice storm.)  Come on, we Canadians are supposed to be knowledgeable about snow and ice.  ;-))

The Barron Canyon is also spectacular, about as deep as the Quimet Canyon, but much closer from Toronto or Ottawa.

Barron's Canyon is beautiful. Just watch out for cougars...

Mike, that's a mighty big cougar. Must be one of the Sasquatch variety.

I have never seen a cougar in Ontario, they are some here, but extremely rare. They were thought to be extinct here, but some time ago the authorities confirmed cougar existence using hidden cameras.

Now black bears in Ontario, that's a very different story. On my last visit to Barron Canyon, I took a hike on another trail nearby, that was only about 3-4 ft wide surrounded by tall grass and other vegetation, and suddenly (and silently) a black bear crossed the trail about 25-30 ft in front of me. Of course, in the summer.
