Mike, I read that as nothing but prelude to the hard sell.
Making comparisons of intent/result between Bacon's paint and photography is stretching things beyond the breaking point.
It's a huge mistake: photography can't go there. Where paint has texture and application with which to speak emotion, photographs have little but operator slickness. Photography is another thing and totally different. That images are common to both is almost incidental.
