What a spectacular area with, I would imagine, a myriad of potential places and scenes to photograph. You have some terrific compositions here in getting close to the details and allowing the 'scape to fill the frame to the horizon. In both cases, I think the flat light has let you down. Rather than accentuating the textures and details in the rock, the flat light reduces them, while retaining the great contrast in colour. Using light, particularly side and backlighting, to accentuate details of texture is a critical part of the process of seeing. Thanks for sharing.

Unfortunately we spend over 3 hours being lost before we arrived at our destination.

It was my 1st trip.

I'll get back there again soon enough.

And now I actually can find the way.

It's too cold to camp also. So in some ways you have to take what you can get at this time of year.

It is way out in the wilderness.

You are most correct about the potential.

 ;)

You could spend a few days in the Buttes and still have enough to return. The light isn't the best but now you know how to reach that location just in time for the best light. In winter, it can be bitter cold…

Have you tried these in B&W? would be interested in seeing the lines & textures like that.

Have not.

Maybe I will now that you mentioned it.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Unfortunately, flat light is flat light and even more so in B&W. Without colour for visual contrast, there isn't much left. Great location and definitely worth the time it takes to prepare for and get there.
