Nice shot, most impressive sense of mood; I wonder how it would look in b/w and cropped somewhat? Certainly worth the effort of trying, I think, even if it perhaps owes its initial success to that very colour?

Todd

Nice one.  When I first saw the thumbnail I thought "Oh no, Todd has discovered split toning for B&W and has gone nuts" but the full sized image looks great.  Personally I think the subtle colours make the image.  Well done.

Compositionally perhaps the house is too centred.  I find myself wanting to see less on the left and more on the right.

+1, but I don't agree with Ed about the composition. That tree needs to be exactly where it is, and that dictates where the house has to be.

Russ,

Russ - on reflection I think you are right.  To achieve the less centred effect I was thinking about while keeping the tree on the left third, Todd would have had to shoot the scene standing somewhere else, but then it would be a different shot.

Anyway, it is a nice image... the colours make it.

Todd - compared to some of your earlier PP efforts with their amped up colours and crunchy sharpening this is really good stuff.  I like the subtlety.

Besides that, he's onto one of my favorite subjects: wabi sabi. It's a fine shot.

LOL I wouldn't put it past me at this point. I'm sure its coming at some point! several times at least!

There is no law of photography which says that all images need to be subtle.  It's totally OK to go nuts from time to time.

Love the tonality and atmosphere! Perhaps the clouds/highlights in the upper left corner need to be tamed a bit? A subtle vignetting might kill two birds with one stone, though.

Thanks for sending me the "Dawn Shot" link. It was interesting to me how varied the opinions were from such senior members. I liked the color version much better than the Black & White

The tonal process is an interesting one, but the overall cloying wash of pink/salmon overwhelms the image.  In this case, I don't think that is a such good thing as the subjects and the way they are framed in the shot aren't substantive/interesting enough in the first place... so it becomes a zero sum game. /B

When I first looked at this image, I felt that the color was too overwhelming. I've now revisited it a few times, and it is definitely growing on me. I might like it with the color toned down a bit, but then again I might not. As a fan of black-and-white I feel that a B&W version would simply die. And I wouldn't change anything about the composition.

Thanks for sharing it.
