How to shoot models under the northern lights/aurora borealis

In this article I show photographers how I shoot models under the aurora borealis, live on location, in the canadian arctic

Quote
While many have employed Photoshop techniques to create composite images of a subject shot in a studio with a background shot of the Northern Lights, I prefer the adventure of capturing these images in a single take. Using the light from a speedlight or strobe balanced against the ambient light from the Aurora and stars above,

That is excellent, thank you.

But you left out the hardest part. Where do you find models in the freezing cold? :-)

It's -14(C) here in the north of Sweden right now.

Buddy's wives mostly lol.. that's the thing, there's a population of less than 50 000 people for several hundred miles in any direction, or more.. what i would give to have agency talent from NEXT or Ford Models :) haha

It's -40C here right now. I'm warming the car to go do some astro landscapes tonight under the milky way for the ursuid meteor shower. suppposed to be 10 per hour out...spaceweather.com has more info!

Very nice work!  Finally something different and imaginative.

But now we live in fear of bus loads of northern tourists getting off the bus with their bags full of camera gear. asking where they sell film (sorry, was having an Angkor Vat flashback  with when 4-5 buses of Korean tourists invade and climb all over the religious artifacts taking selfies and then sharing them with the tourist on the next artifact)..   ;)

Well...the sinuous nature of those lights suggest lovely female nude or daphonously draped figures in graceful balletic poses suggesting perhaps flight.  Rob can fill in the details.

I use portable 75,000 BTU kerosene and sometime propane heaters to warm my partially outdoor canvas coating nook, perhaps those things would be of use for the girls.  They throw a VERY summer-like stream of air several meters out in front of them, which is quite pleasant in sub-freezing temperatures.
