sci-fi island
« on: December 15, 2013, 10:26:29 am »

I was down down by the seaside to shoots some sunsets and just as I was ready to pick up and leave I decided to point my camera at the island far off in the east and do a long exposure work as the final rays of light were slowly disappearing behind its 'sister' island. I thought the outcome was rather interesting. C&C welcome.

I don't know. I was really disappointed to see the had come out the way they did. I was hoping maybe you or someone else might tell me what they are. Could it be the result of shooting at f/6.3?

Interesting shot, as they are all uniform it looks like maybe your camera dropped slightly right at the end of the shot, enough to register the bright lights but not enough to blur the island?

Nice effect anyway.

Mat, I took several shots of the island that night, from various angles. They *all* came out this way. First I was disappointed. Now I love it. :)

I love it too! I guess it's just one of those lucky situations, it definitely looked like the camera moved but unlikely if you were able to replicate it a number of times! My guess is it's either magic or aliens!

No matter how many shots you took, it looks like camera movement, it seems to affect the ship?? on the left and there is a ghost shadow above the island on the right. Perhaps your tripod was not locked down securely or were your tripod feet in the wet sand? Either way it is still an interesting image.

A less interesting example of the same phenomenon.

I would have said mirror slap causing vibration during exposure, but that's w/o knowing what technique you were using.
