Supercell
« on: December 13, 2013, 09:09:44 pm »

This unusual image of a supercell thunderstorm was taken some months ago.
It is a 4 second exposure taken just before I had to abandon the field for my own safety.

I have been mulling over in my mind the treatment of this image since then.
I confess to not been certain whether I am doing this image any justice.

Any suggestions about this image would be welcome and please feel free if it is felt that negative criticism is in order.

Fantastic! Looks like science fiction.  I love whatever proceeding was necessary.

This is gorgeous. I think it's fine as-is but if it were mine I would try to enhance the ominous mood by darkening the sky a bit and perhaps bringing out a bit more detail through a micro-contrast adjustment.  Really a cool photo, though.

Very cool photo, and the PP looks fine to me, but I think the fence position hurts the composition. Not sure what could be done about that.

I agree with the suggestion of darkening the sky a bit, this is a fantastic shot.

Nicely done. It doesn’t need anything beyond whatever you typically do for your works.

Gentlemen, thank you for your feedback.
I will darken the sky a bit to see whether it strengthens the image.

  • It's just a camera.

I like the fence because it helps anchor the eye with all the movement in there. For me, the colors are perfect. My only nitpick is it looks like the horizon slants to the right. Nice image.

David - thanks for the comments.

BTW the camera was on a tripod and perfectly levelled - so you are quite correct in that the valley does slope slightly and the area in general is rather hilly.
