Thanks for posting this Sam and also the photos and explanation text that I found under the movie.
Looks like all anybody needs to copy this weekend project is only GoPro + Brushless Stabilised Boom + F3 + Motorbike + Car with Vehicle hard mounts + NEX5n + Biker Body Mount + Steadicam + FS100 + Kenyon gyro + lights + audio….. plus inventiveness, patience, luck, good contacts… phew, quite a project!
Of course but one can do a weekend project with an Nex5n, a cheap tripod and a 50 1.4 you picked up for $50 and Free Resolve.
Which is amazing considering the look one can get.
To some extent this was a test of some of the more ridiculous kit I have acquired.
The most important is setting a goal and doing it.
To me being producer/director was hardest, my 'crew' have wives and children and commitments so I had to strictly budget time and get it done - as much pressure as a commercial shoot.
Did I succeed?- well - I wanted to do a bunch more running but it was 1am and we were done in by then, we got the shot I really wanted - the focus pull from driver to bike.
Some other items in the shoot which are financially attainable - EXT lighting was 2 $30 work-lights, and the car INT was done with $10 led torches.
So still some very shoe string components.
One thing you did not mention in the list of 'things to do' was Sound. Which IMO is very worth a careful listen.
I had help from a professional mixer to build a sound using camera sound, further ambient i recorded, and then both library sounds (car alarm) and also some cinematic effects - bass wooshes on the cuts.
I learned a lot on the sound mix.
