Strangely, when launched in the 100D, Canon did not advertise any AF speed improvement over the first generation hybrid AF, but with the M2, faster AF is the headline claim.
I guess it depends relative to what... According to my quick in store tests last year, the AF of the M was extremely slow, like in slower than cheap compact slow. Besides, it had a hard time to lock focus on the brightly lit displays.
There is no doubt that Canon knows how to design fast AF systems and they had many years to get it exactly the way they wanted it to be... so I assumed this was a design feature.
