Credo 60 and Sinar raw files ...
« on: December 01, 2013, 06:53:24 pm »

Hello, it's almost 7 years  that I use Sinar e75LV (33mpx) on Hy6 and on view camera. I was

looking around to find a new system to work with for the next years and I asked to Hasselblad and

Leaf dealers to show me theri products.
Here there are two files taken with  my Sinar and  Credo 60. It's not a scientific test, I was

interested to see if I can upgrade to a better image to start with in Photoshop. I work 90% in studio

shooting furniture for cataogues so my main obsession are smoothness, color fidelity and sharpness at the end.
I find that the Credo file is quite harsh respect the Sinar; yes it keeps better highlights and

has less rumor  but I find the Sinar file more soft and natural so a better file to start with.

I've tried to change ICC profile and curves on the Credo file but I'm not able to have a natural

look, am I missing something on Capture One setting? how do you see the files?
Thanks for your reply

Hi Marco,

I've looked at the files. It would be helpful if you could send me a jpeg or a tiff that shows how you final image from the Sinar back would look like. especially the wooden drawers as they look VERY different in the two images. I've looked at them in both Capture One and ACR

The DNG file that you have posted has got a Red tint to it, which you can see in the Black polystyrene board on the Right and that it not so easy to correct. If I use the same spot to WB the images (the Grey stripes inside the cabinet), the Credo file stays neutral while the Sinar image still shows the Red tint, which could be a result of an IR "leak" as you were using tungsten lights (?)

With regards to "softness" there are a few useful tweaks you can apply in Capture One: The Sharpening, Noise Reduction and Clarity tools are all designed to do just that. You can also use the "Portrait Soft" Curve which will give you a flatter look.

If you wish to discuss this further please feel free to contact me directly by email or by phone.

Kind regards,

yair
