The Birthing Rock, Moab
« on: November 22, 2013, 04:51:10 pm »

Last week I took a private workshop client out to the Birthing Rock petroglyph panel.  While there I worked with her on creative compositions and seeing beyond the obvious shot.  We discovered this composition of the petroglyphs that included some background cliffs for perspective.  I returned the next day at sunset when the sky was a bit moody.  I waited until after sunset and used an off-camera flash to balance the exposure between the background ridge, which had some ambient light falling on it, and the foreground rock which was facing away from the sunset.  Overall I'm quite pleased with it although I see it does need a little finish work to remove a slight halo along the background ridge.

Thanks for having a look.

Very nice, Bret.  A good solution to a difficult problem.

On my web view, I see no halo.

Lovely petroglyphs, too.  Imagine those guys, making those images so long ago.

I like this image as well and your Edge Gallery is amazing.  Thanks for sharing.  Do you have a colour version of this image?  I suppose the overcast day though would make it a bit "flat" though.

Great subject but B+W isn't turning my crank in this instance.

I do have a color version but it's pretty monochromatic and didn't do much for me.  Black and white works much better for this image.  I appreciate the comments!
