2x Nikon D800 bodies & AF Finetuning Setup
« on: November 14, 2013, 12:28:45 pm »

Hi.

I do have 2 Nikon D800 bodies.
Is there a need to test each lens on each body for AF-finetuning.
Will the second camera remember my settings on the other body/lens combination?

Lenses to be AF-finetuned. Nikorr 24 1,4 G / 35 1,4 G / 50 1,4 G / 85 1,4 G / 105 VR

Any ideas? What´s the best setup for the messurements?

thanks - greetings from Germany

Each body is adjusted for each lens, the same lens on different bodies may need different adjustment values, or no adjustment.  Any given lens and any given body may or may not need adjustment.  I just focus on a round stepping stone out on my lawn about 10' away wide open, zooming in in live view it's easy to see by looking at the blades of grass where the actual plane of focus falls, and I do iterative adjustments from there.  It's as fast or faster than using computerized methods or gizmos like the LensAlign.

thanks for the quick feedback.

Will I loose my lens calibration by changing to another body?
Or does the lens recognize its a new body with new settings?

Hi Niels,

The adjustment settings for each lens are stored in the camera body. They do not travel along with the lens, so each body needs to be adjusted for each lens.

Cheers,
Bart
