Customizing Arty Bollocks: My new artists statement ....
« on: November 10, 2013, 02:10:32 pm »

I'll probably write a more serious statement one day - which seems a tough thing to do for me.
In the meantime I resorted to Arty Bollocks, used them as inspriation and made a customized one.

-----------------------
Artists Statement - Community enhanced Version A

My work disharmonizes
the entanglement of physical emanation
and unexpected bewilderment.

With influences as diverse
as the Luminous Landscape
and Lewis Carroll,
new directions are spawned
from both opaque
and transparent delusions.

Ever since I was a fertilized ovum
I have been bothered by the endless
fluctuations of meaning.

Being abducted
by Nazi Porn Performances
in public Television
during my anal-retentive development stage
the physical relationship my work elicits
between
object and subject,
viewer and viewed,
explores and enhances
the implicit dichotomy
of being and non-being
without abnegating the context
of post contemporary self-actualisation
by chasing police helicopters
with land-air missiles
launched from a virtual copy
of a pimped James Bond racing car
by performing my concentrated manliness
into a rubberized pressure device.

What started out as contemplation
soon become corrupted
into a dialectic of greed
and experimental mechanical sex,
leaving
only a sense of nihilism
and the possibility
of futile understanding.

As momentary derivatives become
clarified
through unperformed
and diverse practice,
the viewer is left
with no clues
beyond
the edges of our world.

Could you exaggerate even more?
I want to push the limits

this

Hello Chris.
This is a good start, but I read it and kept lunch down, so I think you could push it much further.
How about putting in something describing the almost organic relationship your work elicits between object and subject, viewer and viewed, exploring the implicit dichotomy of being and non-being without abnegating the context of post contemporary self-actualisation.
David

Edit: there should be the word "ironic" in there somewhere. Anywhere will do.

"Dis-harmonizing" and "abnegating" in the same thread. Wow.

"Be very selective about the feelings you want to express, because otherwise you could get as subjective as an infant that’s crying in its crib. No one can deny that this infant is expressing himself, but no one would call it art." - Bill Evans

Simply have to find a home for both some genuine ersatz music and the imperative of the de rigueur '59 Coupe de Ville, without which no spirits will get out of their beds and muse for one...

Chris,

I agree that it is a good start but that you really need to push it more. For an artist statement to really sell these days you need to add two specific elements: Sex and Violence, both separately and in combination. And a car chase with rocket launchers is always helpful.

Thank you all a very much lot for your incredebile support and underpstanding of my mission!
I have adumbted outrageously
to incorporate and intergate
the blood, sweat and tears
your minds have spilled
into the textual emanation
of my artistic leading star.

See my "Artists Statement - Community enhanced Version A" added to my first post in this thead.

Thank you very much !
Cheers
~Chris

P.S.: I am still contemplating how to achekowledge the role of the community into the statement. Stay tuned ...

I think the new version expresses clearly the subtleties you are trying to convey in your work. My only remaining caution is this: Are you certain that you aren't perhaps explaining too much, leaving too little to the viewer's imagination?

I look again at all the images you have posted on LuLa. I will, of course, be looking closely for the Nazi Porn and the helicopters.

We, the Committee on Good Taste in Artist Statements, are happy that we could be of some assistance in this worthy enterprise.

Maybe we should plea for getting Marylin Manson into the Triple Scoop track selection you can have for your Zenfolio website ...
