When first I saw this image, I thought that Michael had been experimenting with the Topaz plug-in "Simplify".  The results appear nearly identical to my experience with this tool.

I never use in-camera effects. I also never use Photoshop style effects or plug-ins; or at least I haven't in years.

Clearly, in the process of losing its mind (which happened a few frames later) this particular camera fell into one of its art modes.

I like the picture, regardless.

In my opinion, it's one of the best home page photos in a long time, perhaps because it's an exceptionally good illustration of how semi-abstract semi-chaotic pictures also can have structure and simplicity that keeps me looking at it again and again.

It's bewitching.

Edit: I know what it reminds me of now. It reminds me of some of my attempts to slightly randomize the effects from Genuine Fractals. Remember that time, Michael, when upressing our images seemed like a sensible thing to do?
