Fuji X -E2
« on: November 08, 2013, 03:25:04 pm »

It's tough finding info since only a few people have it. Has anyone here shot w/ it?

How is the dynamic range? better than canon dslr's?

What prime lenses are available?

I was hoping to buy a small camera with great dynamic range and was hoping this was the one I would get. I looked at some of the Sony options but they did not have viewfinders.

Fuji lenses for X roadmap:
http://fujifilm-x.com/xf-lens/en/about/roadmap/

You might also want to read the reviews for the X Pro1 and the X E1 here on the website.
I saw the X-Pro one today and I wasn't exactly overwhelmed by the electronic viewfinder,
I am pondering to get one or an X E2 - but if the EVF on the X E2 is not clearly better than
on the X Pro1, i will get the X Pro 1 because it has the optical OVF.

There is a test for DR and SNR here:

Cheers

Thanks Chris. I hadn't seen the X pro 1, it looks very similar to the X-E2, how do they differ besides the optical OVF? Will they have the same sensor or is the X-E2 forecasted to be a better sensor?

Basically its the same sensor technology, but The E2 has on-chip phase detection pixels for a much improved autofocus.
For the X pro 1 and The E1 the sensor is called "EXR Processor Pro" and for the E2 "EXR Processor II" - so its a new sensor.
I expect the autofocus of The E2 to be awesome, though the X-Pro1 (with newest firmware which improved autofocus)  I saw today wasn't exactly bad.

Concerning foreign lenses via adapter, e.g. Leica in the shop their impression was from 55 mm onwards - no problem (no autofocus of course then), but they advised to stay away from adapter-wideangle combos. They were underwhelmed by the results , especially corner sharpness (one side sharp, the other soft). But I don't know which adapters the tested and if a high quality adapter could work with the X series and say Leica or Contax wideangles.

XE2 has a more recent sensor than the X Pro 1 (which has same as XE1.) X Pro 1 has the hybrid optical viewfinder, and it's overall larger in the hand (more so than the specs might indicate, IMHO.)

Some very good lenses, though not a wide selection. I have the 14, 35, and the 18-55 and 55-200 zooms. All are very good to excellent. Love the 14 and the 35, and the 55-200, and I like the 18-55. The new 23 is supposed to be terrific, and I'm hopeful that the upcoming 56 will be as well. The 60 macro is also excellent, though I chose the 18-55 instead and sometimes regret that.

I have a couple of XE1 bodies, and they've been a lot of fun -- and a lot of time learning how to handle their quirks.

I am on the pre-order list for a X-E2 along with XF35mm and XF14mm. Might be going for the XF56mm when it hits the streets, depending on the performance.

Would be more than happy to share some raw files with you when I get it. It is suppose to be available 20.11.2013, should get it a few days later.

I use my X-E1 with a 21/40/90mm Leitz lens set via Fuji's own adapter. The 21 is a first version f/2.8 Elmarit, the 40 an f/2 Summicron-C and the 90 a compact f/2.8 Tele-Elmarit. The 21 is the only wider-than-35mm M or LTM lens I own that holds up well across the frame at all apertures on the X-E1. Even the 21 ASPH falls off away from the center (though it is crisper in the center than the non-ASPH version). I really like what I get from this setup: the camera's tonality plus the lens' clarity.

Thats good to hear - I plan to use some Minolta glass on it once I have one.

Got it last Monday. Would you like some files to check out?

I use Capture One Pro, waiting on a update that makes sense of the raw files. Still can't make a fair assesment until I get my normal workflow up and running.

The DR is very good, but I have no figures on it yet. I hope to do some 17 "prints over the weekend to check out the high iso.
The focus peaking is excellent in low light. I found the split image focusing works, but I don't like the grey patch in the middle of my viewfinder. A personal thing.
The lens update thing is a bit freaky. I bought a Fuji 60mm for macro work. It has a bit of a think while focussing, but it then hits the nail on the head. That doesn't matter for my purposes. The camera reminded me to update the firmware for this lens(!) which I did. A big increase in speed. Just doesn't seem natural having software in the lens.
