OSX Mavericks forces you to sync with iCloud
« on: November 07, 2013, 09:47:10 am »

In the new OSX9 system Apple has taken out the possibility to sync calendar and contacts lovcally.
Instead Apple tell you to use iCloud to do so.

For people - like me- trying to avoid iCloud and other online clouds this alone is enough to stick with 10.6
Also Apple seems to thinks everybody is always connected to the internet- making use of computers in remote areas less easy.

Go to apple.com and fill the iTunes feedback page: http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
You can also try to write to Mr. Cook.

The best way to avoid iCloud syncing is to do it locally using software like OwnCloud (free).

You can also set up your own in house syncing by using OS X Server, $20 in the App Store. See http://www.macworld.com/article/2061183/itunes-ios-syncing-gone-solve-it-with-server-.html

A quick look at the OwnCloud site didn’t give me a sense of which might be easier to set up.

OS X Server is the easiest way and $20 is not expensive at all. OwnCloud works well but one needs to spend a bit more time - on the other hand, it is free and doesn't rely on Mac OS X (server side).

Thank you both for the good advice!

Somehow Apple does not want to make things easier for you if they can make more profit doing things 'different'.
For obtaining my data they will have to pay.
