Problem moving LR5 to new PC
« on: November 05, 2013, 04:22:44 pm »

I've got myself a new laptop and have copied all LR files (lrcat, previews, backups etc) to it. I have copied all photos to the new laptop and they are all in the same folder structure. I open LR5 and all the previews are blank. When I click on Develop it just displays a blank image.

The photo's all have the little exclaimation mark and when I click on them it says that the original file can't be found. I locate the original file and the exclaimation mark disappears but the preview is still blank.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers
Simon

I can point LR to the new locations but the photos remain blank. Here's a screen dump of how it looks...

Simon,

my advice is to export the entire catalog instead of copying anything manually to the new machine (Crtl+Shift+E on a PC). When doing so LR takes care that everything it needs will be in place. And, positive side effect: One cannot miss something when copying from one place to the other.

Give it a try try and it should work.

If you have blank squares in the Grid view, it's probably not Lightroom.  Your monitor profile is corrupt; reprofile your monitor.
