Photoshop: Leveling line where floor meets wall....?
« on: November 05, 2013, 12:13:31 pm »

I have a photograph of an object shot on a plinth.

The floor the plinth is standing on and the wall behind it are both visible.

Behind the plinth, the line where the wall meets the floor is visible.

This (horizon line - for want of a better term) line isn't straight - it slopes very slightly downwards to the left - and I want to make it stright using Photoshop.

What is my best way of doing this? i.e. which tools should I be using?

Thanks.

If you want to rotate the entire image there are several options:
1. camera raw rotate -  the tool kind of looks like a protractor...sorta
2. rotate feature using crop tool (CS6 and newer) - the tool is in the toolbar across the top when the crop tool is selected and looks like a level
3. use the ruler tool (stacked under the eye dropper tool) to draw a line and then Image>Image Rotation>Arbitrary.

If you want to simply straighten the line without "rotating" the entire image try the Adaptive Wide Angle filter (CS6 and newer I think). Hold the shift key while dragging a line cross the crooked "horizon". It will straighten it for you (more like warp the image so that particular line is straight).

Good luck!

Assuming that the rest of the photo is oriented correctly (I.e. "How you want it to look), you might want to try a  puppet warp to reorient just the line.

An example image will help.  You may have simple rotation of the camera, or your lines that should be parallel may not appear parallel because of perspective issues (shooting pointed downward or off to the side).

What application do you intend to use to remedy whatever the issue is that you are having?
