Epson 9600 questions
« on: November 04, 2013, 12:30:52 pm »

I've just picked up a used Epson 9600 and I've been documenting my experience getting it up and running - http://www.ericsantiago.com/eric_santiago/2013/11/resurrecting-an-epson-stylus-pro-9600-large-format-printer.html

I do have a few questions that I thought someone here might be able to answer;

1) When you run the Printer Status page, what is the "Cleaner" referring to? Is it the cleaner head (a.k.a wiper, part # 1113691) or the flushing box (part # 1112239) or cap assembly (part # 1091110) or the whole assembly?

2) Any recommendations on a) Refillable cartridges and b) the ink to fill them with? ConeColor (http://www.conecolor.com/) seems to have very reputable inks that match the standard Epson Icc profiles, but I'm concerned that they seem to be retiring their K2 inks and the K3 inks may not match as well. They offer refillable cartridges for around $240 but I've seen cheaper on InkOwl and Ebay. How much does the physical cartridge design matter?

I bought a used 9800 and equipped it with "funnel fill" carts and K3 equivalent inks from inksupply.  Great printer, great carts, excellent inks, great service, nearly zero problems in over two years of use.  I did have profiles made for the inksupply inks for the two types of media I use. (canvas and lustre)
