Nikon LS5000 scanner / Windws 7 x64

This may well have been covered somewhere but I couldn't find it.
I said I would scan a few boxes of slides for a friend (I have a slide feeder for it), then realised XP Mode wouldn't work on my PC. Turns out the PC needed a hot fix for some AMD processors - mine is a Trinity.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2519949
However it was sloooowwww and giving the XP Mode more memory apparently crashed it!
A bit more Google turned up a page with a linke to a download of a free 64-bit driver for the Nikon Coolsan usb scanners.
http://axelriet.blogspot.co.uk/2009/10/nikon-ls-40-ls-50-ls-5000-scanners-on.html
It also has a link to 4.0.3 of the Nikon software which was for Vista but works fine in W7.
My friends slides are now scanned and I've uninstalled XP Mode.
BTW some of the slides were stunning. He used to fly Twin Otters for the British Antarctic Survey and they were all from then. Not a sprig of greenery in sight!

Vuescan works on Windows 7 64 bit with most scanners and is quite affordable.

Christoph is correct, but I've come across people who really liked using Nikon Scan and obtained very good results with it, so for those people this looks like a good idea, and it's free.

Does Vuescan support the batch slide feeder (or roll feeder) the LS5000 can take?

Not sure. I have the LS 9000 which is different. Ask Mr. Hamrick, Vuescan producer.

Hi,
Here
you should find the answer, and it seems to be yes (All types of Nikon film adapters are supported, including the SF-210 slide feeder).
Cheers,

Hi
There is a way to use Nikon Scan with Windows 7 64bit and many other newer operating systems. I'm curently run Win7 64bit with a Nikon 9000 ED without any trouble. But you got to change some tiny entries manual and "fake" a driver.
Here is a description that might work for you:

Have fun, good luck

Yes, definitely supports SF-210 batch feeder, I use it all the time. Windows 7.
