Epson 3880 and Mavericks
« on: November 01, 2013, 06:29:30 am »

Has anyone tried printing with an Epson 3880 and Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks)? As far as I know, Epson hasn't yet released a compatible driver for Apple's most recent OS update, at least not for the 3880. Has anyone tried printing anyway? Are there issues using the older driver version 8.64 (OS X 10.8 compatible) with Mavericks? Who knows when Epson will get around to updating the drivers for their desktop pro printers.  I really don't want to update to Mavericks until I'm certain it won't cause any problems with printing. I'd appreciate any feedback on this.  Many thanks!

Larry,
I only have a 3800 printer. I've printed many sheets (mostly A2+) using OS X 10.9 and the Epson 8.64 driver without any problem so far. I've also compared prints made with 10.8.x vs 10.9 and they look identical.
I don't know whether the situation is the same with the Epson 3880 printer…

Continue using Epson 10.8 drivers under 10.9 across the board - no problems so far.

Epson has posted a new 3880 driver, v9.17 for OS X 10.9.x on their support site.

Me too with the 7600, and no problems.

No issues using the older (pre Mavericks) driver with my 3880.

No issues using the older (pre Mavericks) driver with my 3880.

My 3880 totally crashed under Mavericks installed on my relatively recent model (summer 2012) MKbkpro. The new driver on the Epson Website that Sal mentioned fixed the problem. Seems like there really was a need for some Mac users for an updated 3880 driver when running Mavericks, and Epson has given it to us  :) Thanks, Sal, for the heads up on the Epson driver update.

cheers,
Mark

Does the new printer profile change the way the printer operates in any way such that one needs new profiles?  Has anyone compared prints on the 3880 with the new driver and old driver?

Thanks.

I finally upgraded to Mavericks since the smoke seems to have cleared.  I was ready to download the new Epson driver, but the old one works perfectly.  If it ain't broke...
