Listening for Orcas | The Salish Sea Hydrophone Network - Orcas use a diversity of means to communicate, but sound is an important one.  In very basic terms there are orcas that feed primarily on whales, orcas that feed primarily on salmon and other fish, and orcas that feed primarily on seals, sea lions and the like.  Not surprisingly, the seals can tell the calls from the different pods apart.
