Natural white 170-220 g/m² smooth white paper?
« on: October 28, 2013, 08:47:09 pm »

Has anyone come across a medium weight, smooth matte, natural white paper that isn't expensive? I need to do some poster sized prints of images with hot white backgrounds, and really don't want to waste ink putting down an off white background. Something arround the white of Canson Rag Photographique, but not at the same price range. (The Canson Rag in 220 g/m² in some sizes is more expensive than the 310 g/m²)

I spent a few hours looking online today with no success. I have used Breathing color 28MT, which was a little too bright, textured, but around about the right price. I also use Canon 170 g/m² 'Matte Coated Paper', but is way too bright for this particular job.

I need 30-36 inch roll paper. I am printing on an Epson 9890. It doesn't have to be cotton.

Innova IFA24 or IFA25, see spectral plot.

Slight texture but hardly an issue.

Brian, you might take a look at Red River Aurora Natural.  I've used it successfully with both HP Vivera & Canon Lucia inks.  At 250gsm it's a little heavier than you specified, but it's archival & price is good.  http://www.redrivercatalog.com/browse/auroranatural.html

On the scale it is actually 230 gsm so even closer. A bit warmer than Canson Rag Photographique.

I should have mentioned that the Hahnemühle Photo Matt Fibre 200 and the Duo 210 version are identical to that Innova paper and so is the Harman by HM Matt Fibre Duo 210 gsm. Might make it easier to find a supplier.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions, but everything has been to expensive or I have been unable to find a supplier for it in 36 inch rolls: Atlex/itSupplies, Shades of Paper, B&H.

So it is looking like I will have to emulate a natural off white background. Anyone have any suggested RGB values (ProPhotoRGB) for natural paper white?

The Innova IFA24 is 30 Eurocents a square foot in 36" roll size !
But not available in the three brands I mentioned?

The Innova US website lists IFA 04, 05, 09, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 18, 19, 22, 29, 39, 45, 49, and 58. I have also looked at several suppliers; no IFA 24 or 25.

Hahnemühle Matt Fibre 200 g/m², is only available in 17 and 24 inch rolls, and I am not seein the Harman anywhere.
