also, there is no professional photographer, using their gear 'outside' every day, that has a camera in that good "out of the box" condition :p

Mine is scratched all over, :p:p

I don't understand the subject.  Are you implying that he is not good or something. I not a pro buy I went to his website and appears to be doing just fine.
He appears to be a well regarded photographer, will multiple interviews for magazines and an ongoing seminar business.

As I say, I am not a pro, so it's expected that your standards are way higher than mine.  So; could you elaborate?
I loved this one:

"multiple interviews for magazines and an ongoing seminar business."

that's probably quite impressive to the man in the street but to me (a working advertising/design photographer) it means very little as I'm not in the business of selling prints, having amateurs read about me in magazines or doing workshops.
i have no interest in the 'image quality professor' and his lab-coat either. i wish phase would stop sending me those e-mails!

but i think phase are just catering to their target market of which people like me are a small part. wealthy amateurs, '2nd-jobbers' libraries/institutions and landscape photographers probably generate more income for them.

My camera is used on a daily basis, including outside and on location and looks a little bit less nice than new.... It's all about how you take care of your investments. For me it's a priceless piece of investment so I try to keep it as new as possible.

Do not mind them... just a bunch of giggling boys, going for a cheap shot.

Anyone shooting that close to crashing waves would know that the air is filled with sea spray, thus keeping a lens cap on, right up to the moment you need to view through the lens and shoot, is a smart decision.

I think that the point MrSmith is trying to make is that there are a lot of working photographers out there that view other businesses as their primary market/client base. Rather than those photographers that view other photographers as their primary client base.

The video is clearly marketing for Phase.

Think Gary Fong!

Yes.
And I would like to add that for a lot of photographers it's business to business not business to consumer.
Also photographers often talk of 'the differences in the print'. I haven't turned my printer on for over a year! To me me 'in print' means something totally different  ;D

What is up with you people? It's a freek'n advertisement. Get over it!

Is it always necessary to compare dick size on forums?

Take a pill.

The point is that, "before" ; few years back the video's were interesting, ...

For instance, Andreas Gursky shoots on phase one ( this i first had info).. That could be nice to hear about.. But yet again some one who shoots " water " . All the best studios in Paris shoot phase one.  Thomas Ruff and Struth, shoot phase one. All the biggest well known " Artists" that make work that is much larger than "imagery muzak" but really have a meaning in "art-history" shoot on phase one.  Why not make a video about that ... And not talk about the technical aspect but about the work of the person.

This yet again is a video about some one that shoots images without much thought, : of water or a rock... it's annoying !,

The thing is there is a difference between a illocant image, and 'art'.

Maybe they could all wear lab coats in these videos to get the technical aspects across?

Can you please point us to works the Düsseldorf kids have shot on P1 ? Wouldn't be surprised Ruff and Gursky gave MFDB a try but I keep seeing Struth with his 8x10 Plaubel for instance.

As well as 8x10 (late audience serie, I'm sure, maybe 'new pictures from paradise' too) and even a 4x5 Technikardan... Whatever, he seems the least digital inclined of the 3 to me, and I'd be glad to see some works if he did.

Like every successful photographer, they all have a range of cameras to use.

Gursky uses an Phase/Alpa for some work.
Candida Hofer has Alpa/Phase with every piece in duplicate, for security.
Gregory Crewdson - now on Phase/Cambo and LF film.
Paul Graham - Phase/Alpa and others.
Taryn Simon - Phase & LF film.
Alec Soth - Hasselblad Digital + 8x10 film.
Broader based artists like James Turrell - Phase/Alpa plus sometimes film too.

You get the idea.
