DXO Film Pack vs Nik Silver Effects Pro
« on: October 28, 2013, 10:39:37 am »

I've been playing with a trial version of Nik Silver Effects Pro which is quite nice.  However, I don't need any of the other Nik software that one must buy.  Do any of you use DXO Film Pack for black and white conversions?  How does it compare with Silver Effects Pro?

I just obtained both FilmPack and Silver EFX within the last week.  So far they're appear to be pretty comparable, I like the results I'm getting with each.  FilmPack has the advantage of emulating a lot of colour films as well as B&W.  I also like that you can adjust the grain resolution to emulate camera originals shot on 35mm, MF, or LF cameras. You can download a full-feature 30-day free trial of FilmPack from DxO and try it yourself.  They currently are offering special pricing of about $129.  For Nik, at only $149 for the full Nik plug-in bundle I wouldn't balk at fact that you have to get the whole set, Silver Efex used to more than that all by itself.
