I have been there a couple of times. It's an easy 35 miles from Farmington down 371 (Bisti Hwy) to the entrance which is about a 2 mile drive to the parking area. there's interesting formations all around the parking area but it's recommended to walk in from the parking area about 2 miles to see more interesting stuff. I am including a couple of links…one showing a map…I would take the walk toward the cracked eggs area that you will see on the linked map…… the whole place is one of the strangest and interesting landscapes you have ever seen….like being on another planet…and very strange if nobody else is there…which could be the case at this time of year…….happy shooting.
It is recommended that if you are going to walk in a couple of miles and want to shoot at sunset, you should take a gps and set your starting at the south parking lot where you will start from and take a very bright flashlight to find your way out once it starts to get dark.
Of course you don't have to walk in to see interesting formations…there are things near the parking area and also on the roadside of the main highway as you approach the Bisti entrance.http://www.synnatschke.de/bisti/map.htmlhttp://www.americansouthwest.net/new_mexico/bisti_badlands/
