Lightroom (and ACR/Photoshop) Compatibility with OS X 10.9
« on: October 22, 2013, 06:41:33 pm »

Has anyone out there been Beta testing Apple's OS X 10.9 (the "Mavericks" release that started shipping today) with Lightroom and ACR/Photoshop?  Any compatibility issues?  I usually hang back for a while on installing operating system releases, but I'm hoping the new OS X compressed memory feature, along with what I gather are re-engineered garbage collection routines, will alleviate the exhaustion of real memory I'm seeing when processing D800E files—especially, although not exclusively, when Photoshop is running coactively with Lightroom.

OS Compatibility and FAQs for Mac OS Mavericks (v10.9)

Thanks, Jeff: just what the doctor ordered.  Looks like the worst case is that I would need to reinstall my CC products (this is due to an install-time linking problem, I suspect), but I still think I'll give it a few days to let the dust settle.

I just upgraded to Mavericks - seamless; no problems. LR opened and was used without a hitch.

For Lightroom 5.2 and Camera Raw 8.2 (latest versions):  We have tested these with 10.9 and they should work fine.  If you have older Lr versions (e.g., Lr 5.1) be sure to get 5.2 if you're on 10.9

I've been running LR on 10.9 since the beta without issues.

Are you still experiencing issues?

I printed a few A2 pages on an Epson 3800 printer and everything is working fine. I compared the output (vs OS X 10.8 prints) and there's no visible differences.

I am still on LR4.4 and there is one little thing that changed. Sliders are now much less visually appealing, ie, they are now too in-your-face, plus they lost a visual indicator what they represent. For instance, with Hue, they used to indicate with the appropriate color in which direction you are going... not any more.

That'll be an issue until you upgrade to LR 5.2, and no, there won't be a fix for LR 4.x.

I've noticed a minor issue. When I look at the Filter bar at the top of the Library, I don't see the count of how many pictures match each item in the filters.

For example, the Date filter would show each date in a folder and I'd see a count for how many pictures were taken on each day. The dates are there but the counts aren't. None of the counts are there.

Brand new Mavericks install and LR 5.2. Same behavior on my iMac and my Macbook Air.

I do see all those numbers (on a MacBookAir with "Mavericks") and haven't noticed a problem, Tom. Maybe do a File > Optimise?

I've tried optimizing, different catalogs, rebooting and I even made a new catalog. I'm still not seeing the counts. Weird.

tomrock, thanks -- we've reproduced this issue now internally as well, and the team is looking into it.

Thanks. They showed up once on my Macbook Air but have since stopped showing.
