Dawn in the beach
« on: October 21, 2013, 10:53:16 am »

Hello,

These are two shots from a pre-dawn/dawn outing in Carcavelos beach, near my home. Same day as my previous "Pier" post. First one taken with the Zeiss 50 f2 ZM, second one taken with the Fuji 14mm lens. Both on my Fuji XE-1.

Regards

That thin pink cloud is an interesting natural phenomenon, but a total visual distraction in a photo. Everything else under it has lovely color combinations and transitions.

I particularly like #1 because it opens up more than #2 due to the negative space of the sky.  The pink cloud doesn't bother or even stand out me to me but I am unreliable color-wise.  Sometimes being color deficient is blissful ignorance. :)

As so often, I agree entirely with Slobodan. It's a lovely shot but that line of cloud adds nothing.

the first one is nice, but as Slobodan says, that pink sliver of cloud is a bit distracting.  Well, actually, it isn't the pink sliver that is the problem. It is the blue sky above the sliver.  Crop the blue top off (almost all the way) so that the pink sliver becomes the top-edge framing element for the image, and I think you will have a much more coherent shot.

I changed my mind.  Just crop that whole awesome pink cloud out.  It looks excellent without the cloud.  I know how hard it is to remove such a novel element, but without it, the image is very coherent and beautiful.

Both lovely. They remind me of Gerhard Richter abstracts.

The water in #1 is especially rich and pleasing.

Thanks for the comments. As always, there are different opinions:) I actually like the sky with the pink cloud across it, it adds interest to an otherwise boring sky. Also, there is another thin whitish-pinkish cloud just below it, a bit fainter, but it is there.

Maybe make #1 a study in horizontal by emphasizing the lines in the sand more ?
#2 is peaceful, but i really like #1.

Both are great images with the first one being richer in tone. I do think cropping the pink line out would enhance it, though.
